I forgot to check in on The KID Museum up in Bethesda recently and I see they’ve added new online programs since last summer.
Their Maker Playground series for January is focused on celebrating Martin Luther King Jr with three programs:
Their Design Challenge highlights Dr King’s monument in Washington DC and challenges you to create your own monument to Dr King inspired by what you’ve learned about him.
Their Coding Corner has you use Scratch, Scratch Jr or any other coding platform to create a story or animation to share your own dreams of a better world.
And their Community Project, the third part of their Maker Playground for January, engages kids to explore the communications techniques of our modern world and how you’d spread important messages of peace and justice.
The Kid Museum also has Virtual Field Trips in three groups, 1st-2nd grade, 3rd-5th grade and 6th-8th grade with topics such as Intro to Stop Motion Animation, Chain Reaction Machine, KID City, Things That Fly, Intro to EDP, Intro to 3D Digital Design, Design an Energy Efficient Lunch Box, Circuits, Intro to Scratch, Sustainable Building Design Challenges, and Intro to Coding with MakeCode.
Also, educators should check out the KID Museums’s Make It! Classroom, virtual maker programming featuring either semester or year-long program aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards that can be seamlessly integrated into a science class, STEM elective or enrichment settings for elementary students.

Registration is open for a Sketch Drawing class as well as an Alcohol Ink “Art and Hearts” class. These don’t start until the February 8th and 12th, respectively, but Raye of Light classes fill up fast, so thought I’d highlight them a little earlier.
